About the role.

McCain Farms is looking for an experienced Truck and Transport Mechanic to join our team. The role of the Licensed Mechanic is to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all diesel-powered trucks and transport equipment at McCain Farms through expert inspection, diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance, in alignment with industry best practices and safety regulations.

 

What you’ll be doing.

•    Inspect, diagnose, service, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension systems, HVAC, and hydraulic systems in farm transport vehicles and equipment.
•    Perform routine maintenance, safety checks, and regulatory compliance inspections.•    Use advanced diagnostic tools and interpret technical data to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults.
•    Complete all required paperwork, parts ordering, repair logs, and maintenance records accurately and promptly.
•    Advise on needed repairs and maintenance schedules to supervisors and management.
•    Mentor apprentices and contribute to workforce skill development.
•    Adhere strictly to occupational safety, environmental, and McCain Farms operational policies.
•    Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform field repairs as required.
•    Coordinate with service managers and other tradespeople to ensure optimal fleet performance.

•    Physical demands: Frequent lifting, standing, crouching; exposure to mechanical hazards and variable weather.

 

What you’ll need to be successful.

  • Registered apprentice – Truck and Transport Mechanic or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in diesel engine, heavy vehicle, or agricultural machinery repair, including:
  • -  Ability to change brake shoes, tires, clutches, transmissions, rear ends, beltings and lacings, and bulk body repairs such as carry back rollers, tail rollers, bearings, etc.
  • -  Ability to perform accurate inspections on trucks and trailers for MVI.
  • -  Experience in skid steer maintenance, and familiarity with working on pickups and other company vehicles including removing and installing transport engines. 
  • -  Preference for candidates with welding and torch experience.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems; proven competence with advanced diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and computerized diagnostic codes.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, outdoors, and under pressure; willingness to work flexible shifts as needed.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in new technologies (e.g., hybrid/electric vehicles, telematics).
