Breeder Jobs

A breeder is responsible for the breeding of livestock, such as cattle, goats, sheep, swine and poultry. Job responsibilities of a breeder include stimulating the animal's organ to induce ejaculation, labelling and packaging semen, inspecting animals to determine any illnesses or injuries, incubating eggs in order to induce hatching, adjusting facility temperatures for the health and safety of the animals, selecting animals that will be bred, and treating ill and injured animals.

A bachelor's degree in veterinary science, agricultural science, zoology or a related field is typically required to be a breeder. Helpful job skills include animal care skills, attention to detail, good time management skills, good problem solving skills, knowledge of the animals and industry, good critical thinking skills, and decision-making skills. The future job market outlook for a breeder is declining.
