A chemist is responsible for conducting chemical analysis and chemical experiments in order to determine the structure and nature of substances to develop new knowledge and products. Job responsibilities of a chemist include using software to carry out research and analysis of chemical compounds, interpreting data and ensuring accuracy, reporting and presenting findings in an appropriate manner, ensuring that health and safety standards are followed, preparation of compounds and solutions in order to conduct testing, developing and improving analytical methods, and improving efficiency of testing and diagnosing malfunctions.
A bachelor's degree in chemistry or a closely related field is required in order to become a chemist.
