A crop consultant is responsible for providing advice to clients regarding their agriculture activities, specifically around crop production, in order to have the business run more efficiently. Job responsibilities of a crop consultant include meeting with and visiting clients to review and collect data regarding their farm, meeting with clients about business requirements, providing demonstrations for new products, measuring the performance of the business, preparing, presenting and implementing new, more efficient business practices, and maintenance of client records.
A bachelor's degree in agriculture, horticulture, plant science, animal science, earth sciences or a related field is generally required to be a crop consultant. Helpful job skills include attention to detail, strong communication skills (both verbal and written), good analytical skills, ability to problem-solve, good decision-making skills, charisma, great organizational skills, knowledge of the industry, and being able to work both independently and in a team. The future job market outlook for a crop consultant is good and increasing.
