Enology Jobs

An enologist is responsible for the management and production of wine through all of its stages. Job responsibilities of an enologist include deciding when to harvest the grapes, coordinating and managing the grape crushing, managing the fermentation process, managing the cellar workers with the operation, cleaning, and maintenance of the winemaking machines and equipment, working with lab technicians in order to analyze samples of the wine as it ages, determining when the wine should be blended and then bottled, maintaining records of production, determining the copy on the wine bottle, and selling wine to both consumers directly and distributors.

A bachelor's degree in food science, enology, viticulture or a related field is required to be an Enologist. Helpful job skills include refined smell and taste senses, knowledge of the industry, strong communication skills, active listening, attention to detail, strong leadership and management skills, and good critical thinking skills. The future job market outlook for an Enologist is strong.
