Job responsibilities of a food safety manager include development of food safety regulations, education of employees on food safety regulations, conducting inspections of facilities to ensure procedures are being followed, ensuring proper maintenance and cleaning of facilities, maintaining records of maintenance, changes in regulations, and any food safety issues the organization has had, and monitoring food activities to ensure that product leaving the facility is up to quality standards.
A bachelor's degree in food science or a related field is required in order to be a food safety manager. Helpful job skills include strong communication skills (both verbal and written), knowledge of the food industry and regulations, strong attention to detail, good critical thinking skills, and ability to problem solve.
