An operations research analyst is responsible for identifying, analyzing and solving business problems, and improving business processes and procedures. Job responsibilities of an operations research analyst include determining the cost effectiveness of the organization's current procedures, collecting data and information on all aspects of the organization, identifying and analyzing business problems through statistical analysis, speaking with employees regarding business problems, advising on solutions, performing quality and validation tests on data, problems, and solutions, and developing statistical and analytical models in order to analyze data.
A bachelor's degree in math, computer science, management science, operations research, or a related field is required to be an operations research analyst. Helpful job skills include great analytical skills, strong problem-solving abilities, good communication skills (both written and verbal), decision-making ability, active listening, great IT skills, and good organizational skills.
