Summary
The intent of this position is to establish long-term relationships with customers to pursue grain origination. This position will target customers and develop effective pricing strategies and promotions, represent the company at the farm level, and play a key role in planning logistics to meet the needs of customers and Bartlett facilities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an origination strategy for the territory.
- Effectively grow the grain business through a targeted approach to customers, maintaining regular contact with customers through on farm meetings, phone calls and other means of communication. Participate in farm shows, networking activities, and complete cold calls.
- Develop and maintain effective business relationships with current and prospective customers.
- Effectively utilize customer relationship management tools.
- Understand customers grain marketing needs and collaborate in developing solutions. Actively promote and establish farmer grain marketing programs.
- Purchase grain and collaborate with operations and merchandising staff to ensure logistical execution.
- Collect grain samples from growers to understand quality and facilitate merchandising programs.
- Provide timely service, marketing options, contracting options and advice to current and potential customers.
- Monitor crop conditions and communicate effectively with origination and merchandising teams.
- Comply with contract and risk management practices including but not limited to contract signature and execution. Maintain accurate and detailed records.
- Participate in daily forecasting and strategizing of sales and marketing efforts.
- Monitor and communicate customer and competitor activity.
- Collaborate with our regenerative ag team in identifying and working with customers.
- Adhere to company safety policies and procedures and willing to enforce them with other employees and visitors.
Qualifications:
Required
- Successful completion of Certificate in Agriculture, Agri-Business certificate, or equivalent post-secondary education. A combination of education and experience that provides the required level of competency, skills and abilities may be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Canadian grain industry including marketing, operations, transportation & crop production.
- Familiarity with futures markets and hedging.
- Demonstrated experience in negotiation and risk management.
- Strong communication & interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently to solve problems.
- Ability to prioritize on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced math and computer skills.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to work extra hours when required.
- Must be proficient with MS Office programs.
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license.
Preferred
- Experience with production agriculture is preferred.
- Familiarity with customer database programs.
