Summary

The intent of this position is to establish long-term relationships with customers to pursue grain origination.  This position will target customers and develop effective pricing strategies and promotions, represent the company at the farm level, and play a key role in planning logistics to meet the needs of customers and Bartlett facilities.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an origination strategy for the territory.
  • Effectively grow the grain business through a targeted approach to customers, maintaining regular contact with customers through on farm meetings, phone calls and other means of communication.  Participate in farm shows, networking activities, and complete cold calls. 
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with current and prospective customers.
  • Effectively utilize customer relationship management tools.
  • Understand customers grain marketing needs and collaborate in developing solutions.  Actively promote and establish farmer grain marketing programs.
  • Purchase grain and collaborate with operations and merchandising staff to ensure logistical execution.
  • Collect grain samples from growers to understand quality and facilitate merchandising programs.
  • Provide timely service, marketing options, contracting options and advice to current and potential customers.
  • Monitor crop conditions and communicate effectively with origination and merchandising teams.
  • Comply with contract and risk management practices including but not limited to contract signature and execution.  Maintain accurate and detailed records.
  • Participate in daily forecasting and strategizing of sales and marketing efforts.
  • Monitor and communicate customer and competitor activity.
  • Collaborate with our regenerative ag team in identifying and working with customers.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures and willing to enforce them with other employees and visitors.


Qualifications:

Required

  • Successful completion of Certificate in Agriculture, Agri-Business certificate, or equivalent post-secondary education.  A combination of education and experience that provides the required level of competency, skills and abilities may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Canadian grain industry including marketing, operations, transportation & crop production.
  • Familiarity with futures markets and hedging.
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiation and risk management.
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently to solve problems.
  • Ability to prioritize on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced math and computer skills.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to work extra hours when required.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office programs.
  • Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license.


Preferred

  • Experience with production agriculture is preferred.
  • Familiarity with customer database programs.
