A quality assurance (QA) analyst is responsible for testing software and computer programs and ensuring that these programs work properly and efficiently, and to consistently improve the software programs to help effectiveness. Job responsibilities of a QA analyst include evaluating software programs and procedures to ensure the effectiveness of these programs, recommending possible improvements to programmers, reviewing the software program in order to determine if it will perform the request and is within the guidelines, working to create tests that are repeatable and automated, testing solutions on a variety of criteria such as functionality, reliability and performance, ensuring that product is fixed before it goes live, and maintaining documentation of tests, problems and solutions.
A bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field is required to be a QA analyst. Helpful job skills include great communication skills (both verbal and written), attention to detail, strong IT skills, good problem-solving skills, ability to critically think, good decision-making skills, ability to work independently, and good analytical skills. The future job market outlook for a QA analyst is fair.
