The Research Data Technician is a hands-on software developer responsible for the full cycle of application coding and solution delivery within established architectures and standards. The role focuses on building features, fixing defects, and optimizing existing codebases, primarily in .NET (C#/ASP.NET) and Microsoft SQL Server. This individual will also create data models, queries, and reports/visualizations in Power BI to support business needs. This position collaborates closely with senior developers and product stakeholders to clarify requirements, estimate work, and deliver reliable solutions.

***Please note: there is no visa sponsorship or relocation assistance provided for this role.

What You'll Do:

  • Design, code, and unit test application features and services using .NET (C#, ASP.NET Core, EF) following established patterns and guidelines.

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server objects (tables, views, stored procedures, functions) and performant queries.

  • Diagnose application and data issues, perform root-cause analysis, and deliver well-scoped fixes with peer review.

  • Implement integrations with internal systems and third-party APIs using approved frameworks and authentication methods.

  • Translate functional requirements into technical tasks and provide level-of-effort estimates.

  • Create and maintain Power BI datasets, data models, and reports to support analytics and operational dashboards.

  • Write clear technical documentation (e.g., readme files, design notes, data dictionaries) to support maintainability.

  • Follow security and data-handling guidelines; uphold coding standards and code review practices.

  • Collaborate with teammates and stakeholders; participate in backlog refinement and sprint planning as needed.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of code quality, performance, and developer experience.

What Skills You Need:

  • Associate's degree, technical degree, or a bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

  • Hands-on experience coding in .NET (C#, ASP.NET Core) and SQL; familiarity with Entity Framework or a similar ORM.

  • Solid understanding of relational database design, indexing, and query optimization in Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Ability to analyze logs and metrics to troubleshoot application and data issues.

  • Experience building reports/visualizations in Power BI; knowledge of DAX and Power Query (M) is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of RESTful APIs, JSON, and authentication/authorization concepts (e.g., OAuth).

  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow established standards.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills; comfortable clarifying requirements with stakeholders.

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Experience with PowerApps or Power Automate for light workflow enablement.

  • Familiarity with front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular) for basic UI work.

  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling.

  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure services used by the team (e.g., App Service, SQL Database) without owning infrastructure.
