A seasonal employee typically has job duties that full-time and part-time workers already do at the same organization, but when more workers are needed due to heightened demand during the season. A few examples of seasonal jobs include retail positions during the holiday season, positions working in the agriculture industry such as fruit pickers or farm hands, and serving ice cream during the summer months. Given the wide variety of positions available for a seasonal employee it is difficult to highlight only a few of the job responsibilities. However, responsibilities typically focus on customer service aspects of organizations. They also oftentimes focus on manual labour such as being a fruit picker, or helping with pumpkins during Halloween.
A certain level of education is typically not required for these positions. Helpful job skills include strong communication skills, being a quick learner, active listening skills, initiative, physical fitness, good customer service skills, and having a consistent positive attitude. Job market outlook for a seasonal employee is highly dependent on the time of year.
