MAIN FUNCTION: Reporting to the Commercial Manager, Quincy Soy Processing, this is an intermediate level position which is part of the merchandising team for the location. The position, acting as part of the team, will be accountable for procurement strategy, trading, and risk management of soybeans, soybean byproducts, and barge freight positioning to achieve optimum financial results. The position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with accounts, including the handling of logistics, accounting, and other customer related issues. As an intermediate member of the merchandising team, this position requires a higher level of strategic thinking, market knowledge and employee development than an entry-level position.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED:
Prepare & analyze basic profit & loss and other divisional month end reports
Strategically seeks out new business that would profitably enhance company assets
Builds & maintains relationships with a wide range of customers, including premium and volume accounts
Understands customer requirements in order to collaborate and add value to both companies
Prepare & present reports to management detailing customer issues and opportunities
Maintains a clear customer account list and provides detailed background information in files
Handles all accounting related issues in a timely manner to ensure good customer service
Attends internal training sessions to learn more advanced merchandising skills and systems
Ensures the most cost efficient transportation and logistics
Develops a good working knowledge of freight spreads and competitor activities

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
University degree in agriculture or business (i.e. economics, finance, accounting), supplemented with a minimum of 3 years' experience in country elevator management or commodity merchandising in North America. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Demonstrated capacity to excel within high risk, fast-paced work environment. Proven ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment in making decisions. Demonstrated negotiation and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the domestic and international trade.
Proven ability to manage effectively within a team based work environment.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with end-users, suppliers, and internal customers.
Computer competent, with demonstrated ability in the use of spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
Applications within a windows based operating environment.
