A field researcher is responsible for the observation and collection of data and information in support of a research study or group of studies. Job responsibilities of a field researcher include travelling to field sites, collecting and recording data and samples from the field sites, entering collected data into computer databases, identifying possible study objectives, ensuring health and safety standards are met, analyzing data collected, and writing reports based on the analysis completed and data collected.
A bachelor's degree in biology or a related field is required to be a field researcher. Helpful job skills include strong communication skills (both verbal and written), attention to detail, knowledge of technical equipment, active listening, strong report writing abilities, good time management and organizational skills, and some IT skills.
